"I sit writing at a computer and piano for long spans of time, and would often experience back fatigue. Working with the GYROTONIC instructors at Body In Motion has helped me stay flexible and maintain a good working posture... plus I've been able to keep off some of that belly fat."
- Bob Lukomski, composer

What is the GYROTONIC® Method?

Gyrotonic Expansion System GXS
The GYROTONIC® Method, created by Julio Horvath is fast gaining attention worldwide because of its unique and revolutionary approach to movement. The method originates in swimming, ballet, yoga, and tai chi emphasizing three dimensional flowing movements that stretch and strengthen the ligaments around the joints balancing the body in a stress free manner. As the body gently moves through multi-dimensional pathways, the large and small muscles work congruously around the joints enhancing flexibility and ease of movement. The breath work helps to increase breath capacity while calming the mind and energizing the body, and the attention to rhythmic movement creates cardiovascular aerobic stimulation beneficial for the heart. Similar to Pilates, the GYROTONIC® method also focuses moving the body from deep inside the body's center. From performing exercises through GXS, you will feel energized and aligned, as your body, mind, and spirit reach a more harmonious state.

"Man needs something between physical and intellectual work; a playground for heart and soul."
      - Martin Anderson Nexo

Why Use the Equipment?
The equipment guides the body to move spherically facilitating it to move in its natural three dimensional state. The weights on the machine create resistance in order for the body to mobilize without putting any load on the joints. With the aid of the equipment, multiple muscles engage and mobilize simultaneously ultimately helping to release tension in the joints. The movement on the machine is smooth and unrestricted.

History
Julio Horvath was born in Romania in 1942. As a boy he engaged in sporting activities and then became involved in dance, joining the Temesvar Opera at the age of 20. He came to the US in 1970 and was granted political asylum. He continued his career as a dancer performing with the New York City Opera, Radio City Music Hall and the Houston Ballet. He seriously injured his Achilles tendon thus ultimately ending his professional dancing career. Combining his knowledge of dance, yoga and his prior movement training, he created "Yoga for dancers", or better known as Gyrokinesis. He eventually built a machine that became the basis for the Gyrotonic Expansion System. His movement method is now practiced worldwide and is used to train and rehabilitate dancers and athletes, and laypeople.
