What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict your movement. We practice in bare feet or socks.

How long is a session?
55 minutes

What should I expect from a first lesson?
Your introductory session is for you to experience the method and for your teacher to evaluate your needs. After filling out an intake form, you will then learn the fundamentals of the work with and without the machines. Your teacher will also address certain health or fitness goals in the session, customizing the lesson to your needs. It is in this first session that you begin a nurturing relationship with your teacher who will guide you to meet your goals, whether they are recovering from an injury, training for a competitive sports event, or trying to "get fit."

When should I start to see or feel results?
Results vary as everybody responds to Pilates/GYROTONIC® in different ways. Learning these methods is a multi-layered process that takes time and commitment. Once you make this commitment, you will begin to experience the effects and marvel at the changes, whether it's standing straighter, reducing a clothing size, or feeling more energized. It is our goal that you enjoy every lesson. During and after each session, we want you to feel rejuvenated and empowered, ready to tackle any challenge in your day!

"I started taking private lessons and within two months my back pain had subsided approximately 90% to the point where I could function and sleep normally. The staff is very experienced and courteous, and I in my opinion I owe my new, functioning lifestyle to Marcy Schissel and her excellent staff."

How often should I practice Pilates/GYROTONIC®?
The more you practice the faster you will learn and retain it. Consider this similar to learning a language. Your vocabulary will increase as you practice in and out of class. We recommend 2 to 3 times per week for the best results. You can also attend one time per week in the studio, and for homework, practice some of the work on your own time. If you make that commitment to yourself, you will quickly begin to feel and experience the results!

Who does Pilates/GYROTONIC®? Can I do it?
Everyone can do Pilates no matter what your fitness level. Male or female, young or old, fit or not so fit, everyone can learn Pilates/GYROTONIC®. Because we specialize in private sessions, we can design the appropriate lesson for your needs. As you progress, we shift your goals in order for you to continue to be challenged.

Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes, we do. We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Please understand that it is important to be mindful of your teacher's time. We realize emergencies do occur which may be out of your control, and because of this, we allow two emergency cancels per year.

Can I do GYROTONIC®, Yoga, and/or Pilates while pregnant?
Yes, you can! These exercise methods will accommodate the physical, emotional and hormonal changes your body experiences during your pregnancy. They will improve circulation, strengthen your body, address muscular imbalances, help relieve low back pain and sciatica, and improve pelvic floor and abdominal tone for faster delivery and recovery. These gentle methods keep you flexible while also heightening your body awareness over the course of your pregnancy. The essential breath work taught in GYROTONIC®, Yoga, and Pilates will come to your aid in delivery-both by invigorating your pushing and calming your nerves. Each of these tried and true methods can empower you as you embark on this incredible journey.

Some say that I shouldn't begin learning Pilates after the becoming pregnant. Is that true?
No. Unless otherwise indicated by your doctor, Pilates can benefit your body at all stages of pregnancy, regardless of your prior experience. If you do choose to begin your Pilates program prior to your pregnancy, you can expect to learn the traditional Pilates Method, tailored to your body and needs. Once becoming pregnant, the traditional Pilates principles will be applied to your pre-natal program, though specific exercises and breath work may vary or be modified to accommodate the changes in your body.

If you start doing Pilates after becoming pregnant, you can expect to be taught a modified, Pilates-based exercise program. Some of the traditional exercises and concepts will not appropriate for the pregnant novice. However, your instructor will know the physical and hormonal changes taking place in your body and modify your sessions accordingly.

Can doing pre-natal Pilates, GYROTONIC®, or Yoga help me bounce back after labor?
Yes. The pelvic floor and abdominal strength gained in your pre-natal Pilates, GYROTONIC®, or Yoga programs generally leads to a quicker recovery of muscle tone in the belly. Your post-partum program will further enhance the healing process and condition you to handle the physical tasks of tending to your baby. In addition, your post-partum routine can offer much-needed relaxation and stretching to the new mother.

When can I begin exercising post-partum?
Generally, doctors recommend starting 6 weeks after your delivery. If you had a vaginal birth and are physically fit, you can start earlier (with approval from your doctor). We begin slowly, accommodating the major changes that your body has undergone and working to reintegrate your core muscles.
